Yes, at City Sightseeing New Orleans, our double-decker buses are wheelchair and scooter accessible, so you can take in all the history and sights of New Orleans without a worry in the world. Hop on, roll on, and laissez les bons temps rouler —because our sightseeing buses are ready to welcome every traveler!
COMPLIANCE HIGHLIGHTS
- All double-decker vehicles are handicapped accessible, with electronic or manual ramps.
- All double-decker vehicles are equipped with 2 or more securement locations on the lower-level.
- These securement locations can comfortably accommodate wheelchairs and scooters that are the:
- Standard width of 26″ – 32″
- Standard length of 48″ – 55″
- Wheelchairs and scooters that exceed the ranges above may create a hazard if they block the aisle and may not be able to ride.
- Staff will do their best to accommodate all guests. However, in order to operate safely, entry may be denied if wheelchair or scooter is extra wide (above 32″) or extra-long (above 55″).
- Each City Sightseeing Bus Operator and Tour Host receive and review a Company Protocol for ADA Accessibility and Securement.

SAFETY POLICIES
- All Scooters & Wheelchairs are required to be tied down by trained staff members only.
- Guests will be provided the option of using the vehicle’s seatbelt for added security.
- Scooters and Wheelchairs are prohibited from blocking the aisle of the bus.
- Those that are wider or longer than the space will not be permitted to ride.
- Buses vary in size. Thus, securement locations vary in size. Access to one bus does not guarantee access to all buses.
IS MY SERVICE ANIMAL ALLOWED ON CITY SIGHTSEEING NEW ORLEANS BUSES?
Yes! City Sightseeing New Orleans, in compliance with the American Disabilities Act (ADA), welcomes service animals to accompany patrons with disabilities on our Hop-On Hop-Off tour buses. To ensure a Safe Touring Experience for all two legged and four legged patrons, please review our Service Animal Tour Policies below.
- Service Animals may accompany a person with disability – A service animal is defined by the ADA as a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Sorry, emotional support animals or pets are not permitted.
- Service Animal must be under the control of its handler at all times – harnessed, leashed, tethered, or controlled through voice or signals.
- Service Animal must be seated on the floor, or held in the owner’s lap – For the animal’s safety, they may not sit on top of a seat and may not block the aisle. Service Animals exceeding 40lbs may not fit comfortably.
- Service Animal must remain quiet and be housebroken – Handlers will be required to remove the Service Animal from the tour if out of control, repeatedly barking or jumping, or if accidents occur on the bus. Handlers will be held responsible for clean up if the Service Animal makes a mess – Staff are not required to clean up for a service animal.
- Include a Service Animal Ticket with your order, at no additional cost. A Free Service Animal Ticket is available on the product when selecting the number of tickets. If you have already booked (whether direct or through a third party), please visit the product page of the ticket you’ve purchased and add a Service Animal Ticket. Stop 1 - The French Quarter
Explore the historic French Quarter on a guided tour with a City Sightseeing New Orleans tour host! Cracked and broken sidewalks require wheelchair users to move cautiously.
Near Stop 1, the heart of New Orleans, stands the majestic St. Louis Cathedral (Cathedral-Basilica of St. Louis King of France). The nation’s oldest continually operating cathedral is also the city’s most recognized landmarks. Enter using the ramped entrance with an electric door on the West side to enter the Cathedral.
Stop 5 - Basin Street Station & St. Louis Cemetery No. 1
Hop-Off at Stop 5 to explore the beautiful Basin Street Station Visitor’s Center with Travel Counselors, pristine restrooms, Gift Shop, Coffee Shop, and interactive exhibits!
See a Ticket Agent to inquire about taking a guided tour beyond the iron gates of St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, New Orleans’ oldest extant cemetery – learn about notable New Orleans figures who are resting here; such as Voodoo Priestess Marie Laveau, Homer Plessy, and so much more!
Stop 7 - Paddlewheeler Creole Queen Mississippi River Cruise
Enjoy a cruise down the Mighty Mississippi River with the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen. A weight-restricted lift transports wheelchair users to all three levels.
Stop 10 - National World War II Museum
The National World War II Museum features immersive exhibits, multimedia experience, an an expansive collection of artifacts and first-person oral histories of the war that changed the world – making it a must-see while visiting New Orleans.
The main entrance (525 Andrew Higgins Boulevard) includes an accessible ramp. Complimentary manual wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Motorized wheelchair or scooter rentals are not available, but they are allowed on campus. They can be rented through third-party companies in the Greater New Orleans area. Handicapped parking spots are available in the Museum Garage. Elevators are offered throughout the museum wherever stairs are available.
Stop 12 - Garden District Guided Tour
Discover the charm and grandeur of New Orleans’ Garden District with our expert-guided tour. Follow the path of tree-lined streets and admire the stunning architecture of historic mansions, each with its own unique story. This picturesque neighborhood, known for its beautifully preserved antebellum homes, lush gardens, and vibrant history, offers a glimpse into the city’s rich cultural tapestry.
Stop 16 - Mardi Gras World
Can’t make it to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, or if you prefer to avoid the crowds, you don’t have to miss out on the joy and vibrance of Mardi Gras! Hop-Off at Stop 16 for a short walk to Mardi Gras World and see all of the hard work that goes into making Mardi Gras as special as it is! This site is wheelchair accessible.
Stop 18 - Vue Orleans and Audubon Aquarium & Insectarium
At Stop 18 – Visit Vue Orleans and Audubon Aquarium & Insectarium, all of which are wheelchair accessible.
